What's New in Version 10.0 - Global Hotkeys

Overview

Version 10.0 adds the ability to define global hotkeys for showing the mini desktop calendar, creating new items, dismissing reminders, and searching the calendar. These hotkeys will work regardless of which window is active. The VueMinder window doesn't even need to be visible for the keys to work. For example, if you're reading email and you need to quickly create a new event, simply press the defined hotkey combination. The main VueMinder window doesn't need to be activated first.

How to Define Global Hotkeys

The global hotkeys aren't assigned (by default). This is to prevent possible conflicts with global hotkeys defined in other programs. To define the hotkeys, use the "Hotkeys" command on the Options menu.

To specify a hotkey for a command, select from the drop-down list. Not all hotkeys need to be defined. If there are only a few that you intend to use, just define those and leave the others set to "None".

Hotkey Commands

The following commands can be assigned to global hotkeys:

Show main VueMinder window Makes the main VueMinder window visible if it is currently minimized or displayed behind other windows.
Show full desktop calendar Toggles the display of the desktop calendar in full mode. All open windows will be minimized. Pressing the hotkey again will restore the previously minimized windows.
Show mini desktop calendar Toggles the display of the desktop calendar in mini mode. All open windows will be minimized. Pressing the hotkey again will restore the previously minimized windows.
Create a new event Opens the Event Editor window where a new event can be defined.
Create a new task Opens the Task Editor window where a new task can be defined.
Create a new note Opens the Note Editor window where a new note can be defined.
Create a new contact Opens the Contact Editor window where a new contact can be defined.
Dismiss all reminders Dismisses any currently displayed popup reminders or desktop alerts. This is useful if a large number of reminders are displayed and no longer needed, since they can all be dismissed in one operation by using the hotkey.
Search Opens the Search window where items can be searched. Search results will appear in the main VueMinder window.
