Editor Window Improvements

Version 8.0 has been improved to allow multiple event, task, note, and contact editor windows to be open at the same time. If changes are made and an editor window is closed without saving, a message will be displayed asking to save the changes. New buttons have also been added to the top of the editor windows, for saving, creating new items, deleting items, printing, emailing, adjusting defaults, and navigating between next and previous items.

Event Editor

The following new buttons have been added to the top of the Event Editor window. From left to right, the buttons are defined below:

  • Save and Close - Saves current changes and closes the editor window.
  • Save - Saves current changes, but leaves the window open so additional changes can be made.
  • Save and New Event - Saves current changes and creates a new event in the current editor window.
  • Delete - Deletes the current event and closes the editor window.
  • Print - Prints the current event details. This is the same content shown in the Details pane.
  • Email - Initiates a new email using the default email program. The body of the email is generated based on the current event.
  • Load From Defaults / Save As Defaults - Shows a drop-down menu allowing the associated calendar defaults to be loaded or saved.
  • Previous Event - Navigates to the previous event, in chronological order. Changes will be saved and the previous event will be shown in the current editor window.
  • Next Event - Navigates to the next event, in chronological order. Changes will be saved and the next event will be shown in the current editor window.
  • Close - Closes the editor window. If changes have been made but not yet saved, a message will be displayed.
  • Help - Shows the help documentation for the Event Editor window. Note, the help documentation need to be updated for the latest changes.

Task Editor

The following new buttons have been added to the top of the Task Editor window. From left to right, the buttons are defined below:

  • Save and Close - Saves current changes and closes the editor window.
  • Save - Saves current changes, but leaves the window open so additional changes can be made.
  • Save and New Task - Saves current changes and creates a new task in the current editor window.
  • Delete - Deletes the current task and closes the editor window.
  • Print - Prints the current task details. This is the same content shown in the Details pane.

Contact Editor

The following new buttons have been added to the top of the Contact Editor window. From left to right, the buttons are defined below:

  • Save and Close - Saves current changes and closes the editor window.
  • Save - Saves current changes, but leaves the window open so additional changes can be made.
  • Save and New Contact - Saves current changes and creates a new contact in the current editor window.
  • Delete - Deletes the current contact and closes the editor window.
  • Print - Prints the current contact details. This is the same content shown in the Details pane.
  • Export Contacts - Exports contacts to a CSV file. This is the same as the Export Contacts command on the File menu.
  • Import Contacts - Imports contacts from CSV, Outlook, Excel, or Google Mail. This is the same as the Import Contacts command on the File menu.
  • Add Birthday to Calendar - This button will add a new event for the contact's birthday. The event will be automatically configured to recur yearly, show the contact's age in the event title, and will be linked to the contact. If no birth date has been specified, the button will be disabled.
  • Add Anniversary to Calendar - This button will add a new event for the contact's anniversary. The event will be automatically configured to recur yearly, show the contact's anniversary number, and will be linked to the contact. If no anniversary date has been specified, the button will be disabled.
  • Close - Closes the editor window. If changes have been made but not yet saved, a message will be displayed allowing selection of whether changes should be saved.
  • Go To - Allows navigation to a different contact. The current contact will be saved and the selected contact will be shown in the current editor window.
  • Help - Shows the help documentation for the Task Editor window. Note, the help documentation need to be updated for the latest changes.

The Contact Editor window has also been improved with several new fields. The "Category" field allows contacts to be associated with one or more categories - the same list used for categorizing events, tasks, and notes. The "Website" field allows entry of the contact's website, which can be clicked to open in a browser. These fields have also been added as columns in the Contact List.

The "Email Address" and "Mobile sent-to" fields have been improved with new buttons on their right side. Clicking these buttons will initiate a new email or text message to the contact.
