Editor's note: Version 7.0 makes calendar sharing even easier, and adds the ability to assign user permissions to shared calendars. You can read a step-by-step guide to calendar sharing, which replaces the information provided below, by clicking here.

If you've ever grown frustrated at how something so simple - sharing a calendar with other people on a local network - can be made so difficult, VueMinder Calendar Pro is here to help. Forget about setting up shared calendars using Outlook Exchange Server, or publishing to the web when all you want to do is share locally and securely. VueMinder Calendar Pro is the answer you've been searching for!

Setting up calendar sharing can be done with one simple menu command. Right-click the calendar name you'd like to share, and select the  "Share to LAN" command from the "Share Calendar" submenu.

Select the Share to LAN command to initiate sharing of a calendar.

After selecting the "Share to LAN" command, a window will appear asking for a file location to share the calendar. Browse to a folder that all computers on your local network can access, and then enter whatever file name you'd like.

Enter a name for the calendar file. This calendar file will be shared over the LAN.

That's all that's needed to initiate sharing of a new calendar. The specified iCalendar file will be automatically updated whenever changes are made on the local computer. The next step is to configure other computers to also share the calendar. To do this, go to each computer and select the "Add Shared Calendar From LAN" command from the File menu.

Select the Add Shared Calendar From LAN command to add a calendar that was shared from another computer.

After selecting the "Add Shared Calendar From LAN" command, browse to the shared file location that was specified when initiating calendar sharing from the original computer.

Browse for an existing shared calendar to add to the Calendar List.

After clicking the "Open" button, the shared calendar will be added to the Calendar List and any events it contains will appear in the Calendar View. Changes can be made to the calendar from any computer, and those changes will be instantly reflected on all other computers that are sharing the calendar. There are no confusing web URLs to copy, Exchange Server mappings, or anything else. All you need is a shared folder on your local network, and VueMinder Calendar Pro takes care of the rest.

Also, Lite version users, you're not left out. While you won't be able to make changes to the shared calendar, you'll still have read access. Simply use the same "Add Shared Calendar From LAN" command as described above.

That's all there is to it. Finally, a simple solution for a simple problem!

Note, the real-time calendar sharing feature is new for version 5.4.0. You can download the latest version by clicking here.
