Contact File As

Postby apelec » Wed May 18, 2016 6:36 am

The "File As" name does not stick. When the record is open the "Full Name" field is copied into the "File As" field. Of course once saved the contact moved to its new alpha position in the contact list.

Hi apelec, I'm not sure why you're seeing this problem. I've attempted to duplicate the problem, but I can't get it to happen. When I copy (Ctrl+C) the full name, paste (Ctrl+V) into the "File as" field, and Save/Close the editor, the pasted "File as" value appears when I reopen the contact. It also appears in the Contact List. Do you still see the problem after a reboot?

It is not consistent. As you can see from the screen shots it seems to depend which "Full Name" field are used. FYI these contacts were imported from an other dB.

When a contact is open, the "File As" field sometimes differs from the Group view list.

Hi apelec, thank you for the information. This looks like a bug. I'm not yet sure what caused it, but I think it might have something to do with how the data was imported. I'll investigate the problem and I'll post a reply when a correction is available.

I don't think it is due to imports, this is repeatable. It depend which fields are filled in and what is in it.

If I split the name across several field, "File As" sticks

good luck with that :!:

Re: Contact File As

I have ViewMinder Pro and have a similar problem where the full names that I imported from a CSV file were often something like 'Mr & Mrs D Jones'.

I am very grateful to apelec for his discovery that the matter is connected with the full-name drop-down menu, which cleverly attempts to analyze the 'Mr & Mrs D Jones', but fails with a name like that. Interestingly I find that I can deal with the situation as follows -
1. I delete everything in the name apart from the 'D Jones', at which point
(a) the 'File as' name reverts to what I had given it originally, (e.g. 'Jones, David') and
(b) the 'Full name' drop-down menu analyses this correctly, entering 'D' as the first name and 'Jones' as the last name.
2. In the Title box of the drop-down menu I enter 'Mr & Mrs'.
By having 'Mr & Mrs' in the Windows clipboard, I can deal with a number of records fairly easily.

My hope is that the above may help the finding of a fix for the problem, and perhaps give for some users a work-around pending the fix.

This problem has been corrected in version 2016.08. The "File As" value will be consistent between the Contact Editor and Contact List. To update, click the "Help -> Check for Updates" menu command.
