Problem with email reminder

Postby Floppy » Mon Oct 26, 2009 5:42 pm

Hello,

there is an annoying problem with email reminders, which contain german umlauts. The sent mail is not displayed correctly. For example:

====================================
Teezeremonie

Start time: Samstag, 31. Oktober 2009 16:00 (GMT+01:00)
End time : Samstag, 31. Oktober 2009 17:00 (GMT+01:00)
Location: D?sseldorf

This reminder was sent by VueMinder Calendar. Don't have VueMinder Calendar? Try it free at http://www.vueminder.com.

====================================
D?sseldorf is displayed, but Düsseldorf should be displayed

If you look in the message source, the problem seems to be the wrong content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi Dirk, welcome to the forums. I wasn't aware of this problem, but it should be easy to correct. I believe the email needs to be encoded using UTF-8 instead of ASCII. This will be corrected in the next release. I'll post a reply to this thread as soon as the correction is available. Thanks for letting me know!

Hello,

thank you for your quick response.

I have discovered that encoding works perfectly if you insert a picture. Very strange. ;)
Even the subject is encoded correctly.

Best regards,
Dirk

Re: Problem with email reminder

Postby VueSoft » Wed Oct 28, 2009 9:06 am

When a picture is inserted into the event description, the reminder email is sent as HTML instead of plain text. The HTML email defaults to UTF-8 encoding, which is why it works. You don't actually need to insert a picture. You could change any of the formatting, like the font size or color, to make the reminder email be sent as HTML.

For some reason, plain text email is defaulting to ASCII encoding instead of UTF-8. I've corrected this for the next release, to force UTF-8 encoding to be used when sending plain text email reminders. This will be in the next release.

Version 5.5.0 has been released and contains a correction for this problem. Email reminders will always be sent using UTF-8, regardless of whether the description is plain text or HTML. Thanks again for letting me know about the problem.
