If you get an error when starting VueMinder Calendar...

Postby VueSoft » Mon Aug 10, 2009 7:35 am

On some computers, an error message may appear when starting VueMinder Calendar after it has been updated to the latest version, from a previous version of 5.1.0 or earlier. If you see an error that says "Configuration system failed to initialize", there is a problem with the application's configuration file. To correct this, go to the following directory:

On Win XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Local Settings\Application Data\VueSoft

On Vista or Windows 7:
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\VueSoft

Note this directory is hidden, so you'll need to enable the display of hidden folders first, if you haven't already.

You'll see some directories with names like "Vueminder.exe_Url_xrl0wik50dbdbdtxsdlmrgeqk5atdgqg". Delete all these directories except the one named VueMinder, which contains the calendar and task data. The other directories contain options and configuration settings. Deleting these directories should allow VueMinder to start without error.

If you see an error message that says "Call was canceled by the message filter", or contains the words "RPC" or "System.Management", you may have a problem with WMI on your Windows installation. This can be corrected by running the attached batch file.

To run the file, save it to a location of your choice. Browse to the file and then double-click to start it. A console window will appear. It may ask if you want to disable a service. If it asks, enter the Y key. It may take a while, but wait until the console window goes away on its own to ensure it fully completes.

After it completes, WMI should be corrected, allowing VueMinder Calendar to startup without error.

As of version 5.2.0, the workarounds described above should no longer be necessary.

You can download version 5.2.0 using the following links:
Pro: http://www.vuesoftsite.com/download/VueMinder_Pro_Setup_5.2.0.exe
Lite: http://www.vuesoftsite.com/download/VueMinder_Lite_Setup_5.2.0.exe

Hi Ric, welcome to the forums. Thank you for letting me know about the problem. It appears this problem is in the Lite version only. The Pro version is unaffected (nudge, nudge). Seriously though, it was an unintentional bug, and a correction has been made.

To correct, uninstall VueMinder Lite, and then download and reinstall using the following link:
http://www.vuesoftsite.com/download/VueMinder_Lite_Setup_5.2.0.exe

Please let me know if this doesn't solve the problem. Thanks!

solved.

side note: in uninstalling (on K:\ drive) i also manually deleted all files (in c:\doc...\user..\local..\app..data\vuesoft\) -- before installing the above fix. vueminder lite came up with a different 'fatal error' and wouldn't start. i restored said deleted files, works fine.

thank you for your prompt reply & fix.

There have been a few isolated cases of the "Configuration system failed to initialize" error still occurring. Version 6.0.0 has just been released, and contains a correction for the "Configuration system failed to initialize" error. The program will now automatically perform the steps necessary to correct the problem, and then continue loading. No error will be shown.
